ADVOCACY
The Santa Monica Public Library is a key part of the local recovery effort and is making strides in restoration and reopening. We are proud that all Library Branches are open, some in person and some via self-service. We are equally proud of the talented library staff who remain resourceful and innovative and continue to find ways to serve the needs of the community and offer a variety of programming.

BOOKSTORE
Support the Library as a member of this nonprofit advocacy group. Work in the bookstore, raise funds, and build awareness about the Library. Email friendsofsmpl@gmail.com to get involved!
APPLY TO BE ON THE BOARD
The Friends Board is looking for new members who can contribute to our continued support of the Santa Monica Public Library. Current positions available:
Boardmember
Provide direction to the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library (FOL), chair a committee or manage a project or event. Set goals, create budgets and plans and evaluate results. Set strategy for the FOL.
Qualifications:
- Have a strong desire to support the activities of the SMPL Library and the SMPL Library community.
- Be willing to attend all board meetings and to commit to 10 hours per month to FOL activities.
- Experience in library management, business management, non-profit management, fund raising and education a plus.
Program Outreach
Manage and coordinate volunteers for program and event support throughout the year. Recruit volunteers, maintain a volunteer list, email volunteers, and coordinate with board members to execute the plan. Provide summary report to the board with volunteer goals set and results achieved.
Qualifications:
- Have a strong desire to set goals, create plans and achieve results.
- Be willing to commit the effort and time required to accomplish goals.
- Experience in volunteer management with successful results a plus but not required.
Fund Raiser
Be responsible for creating a donation strategy for the FOL. Identify target market for fund raising and create a plan to cultivate those markets.
Qualifications:
- Willing to commit the time and effort to accomplish goals.
- Experience in fund-raising for a non-profit organization a plus.
Advocacy
Manage and coordinate advocacy efforts, create advocacy campaigns, and support the Library and FOL ongoing advocacy efforts throughout the year. Grow and maintain the advocacy list, email updates to the advocacy list, and coordinate with board members to execute the plan. Provide summary report to the board with advocacy goals set and results achieved.

- Be willing to commit the effort and time required to accomplish goals.
- Experience in non-profit advocacy with successful results a plus but not required.

LIBRARY & FRIEND PROGRAMS – ON HOLD
Want to help the Library but have a limited amount of time? We are growing a volunteer program to help with library and Friends’ activities.
